According to the complaint submitted to Changsari Police Station, the elderly woman claimed that her son had been taking her pension money for nearly three decades. The alleged physical abuse reportedly continued over the years, leaving her seriously injured during the latest incident.
Seeking protection and legal action, the woman approached the police and formally reported the alleged assault. Following her complaint, Changsari police registered the matter and arrested Khalilur Rahman. Further investigation is expected to establish the circumstances surrounding the allegations and the long-standing financial dispute.
A separate case was reported from Sonowal Tea Estate in Mariani, where an elderly man was allegedly attacked by his son. The accused was identified as Budhua Chobar, while the victim was identified as Mangal Chobar.
Police said Budhua allegedly assaulted his father using a wooden stick, causing serious injuries. Mangal Chobar was subsequently taken for medical treatment and referred to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for further care.
The incident reportedly angered local residents, who intervened and allegedly restrained the accused by tying him to a post before assaulting him. Police later reached the spot and took Budhua Chobar into custody.
The two incidents have drawn attention to concerns surrounding the safety and well-being of senior citizens, particularly those facing alleged abuse within their own families. Police investigations into both cases are continuing, while the victims are receiving necessary medical and legal assistance.
