Jorhat: The death of an 18-year-old girl under unexplained circumstances in Jorhat has raised serious questions, with her family alleging that she may have been a victim of foul play. The incident occurred after the teenager reportedly attended a party at an apartment in the Dohabora Road area, where alcohol and drugs were allegedly present.
The deceased, identified as Anwesha Saikia, had reportedly gone to a flat at Gauri Enclave on Saturday to attend a gathering. The apartment was occupied by Jharna Goswami and her son Aryan Goswami. According to allegations, Aryan and some of his friends were present during the party, while his mother was reportedly away at the time.

The exact sequence of events inside the apartment remains unclear. However, videos reportedly surfaced showing Aryan and another young woman carrying or dragging Anwesha from the second floor towards the parking area. She appeared to be unconscious at the time. Aryan and his associates subsequently took her to Jorhat Medical College and Hospital (JMCH) in an auto-rickshaw.
Doctors at the hospital declared Anwesha brought dead. A post-mortem examination has since been conducted, and authorities are awaiting the findings to establish the precise cause of death. While a possible drug-related cause has reportedly been considered, the medical examination is expected to provide important evidence.
Anwesha’s family, however, has rejected the possibility of treating the death as a simple medical incident. They have alleged that Aryan Goswami and his associates were responsible for her death and pointed to alleged injury marks on her face and neck as possible indications of violence. These allegations have yet to be established through the investigation.
Residents of Gauri Enclave have also raised concerns about gatherings allegedly being held regularly at the apartment. Some residents have claimed that Aryan had previously been involved in troubling incidents. They alleged that on August 21, 2025, he had attempted to attack the apartment’s security guard with a machete, following which residents reportedly submitted a complaint to the Jorhat Superintendent of Police.
The circumstances surrounding Anwesha’s death remain under investigation. Her family is demanding a thorough probe and strict action against anyone found responsible. Anwesha’s mother has publicly appealed for justice, alleging that her daughter was killed and urging authorities to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
