Guwahati: A late-night incident of violence and vandalism created tension in Guwahati’s Jayanagar area after a group of youths allegedly attacked a restaurant manager and damaged property inside and outside the establishment on late Monday night.
According to reports, around five to six youths entered Urol Restaurant in Jayanagar and allegedly launched an unprovoked attack on the manager, identified as Chanki Ahmed. The situation reportedly turned violent within a short time, with the attackers using an iron chair and bricks to assault Ahmed. He sustained injuries in the incident and was subsequently taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. His condition is being monitored by doctors.

The group allegedly went on to damage several items and other property inside the restaurant before leaving the premises. The attackers also reportedly targeted Ahmed’s motorcycle, which was parked outside the eatery, causing further damage.
Restaurant employees and the owner expressed concern over the incident and raised suspicions that substance abuse could have been a factor behind the youths’ behaviour. However, the exact motive behind the attack has not yet been established, and the allegations are subject to investigation.
Following the incident, personnel from Basistha Police Station reached the restaurant and began gathering evidence. Investigators reportedly examined available CCTV recordings from the area in an effort to identify the individuals involved. Police also questioned people who were present at or near the restaurant during the incident to gather information about the sequence of events.
The incident has sparked concern among local residents and business owners, particularly over the safety of establishments operating during late hours. Police efforts are currently focused on identifying the accused and determining the circumstances that led to the violent episode.
