A transgender person identified as Asma was found dead inside a rented residence in the Gurukuchi area near Rangia railway station on Wednesday, prompting police to begin an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.
According to preliminary information, Asma had been staying as a tenant at a house belonging to Saber Ali in Gurukuchi for around four years. The incident reportedly came to light in the morning when other occupants of the rented property noticed what appeared to be blood coming from beneath the door of Asma’s room.

Alarmed by the discovery, the tenants informed the Rangia Police, following which a team of officers arrived at the residence. Police recovered Asma’s body from inside the room and began examining the scene for evidence that could help establish what had happened.
Initial observations reportedly indicated injuries around the neck, leading investigators to suspect that the victim may have been attacked with a sharp-edged weapon. However, the precise cause and circumstances of the death are yet to be officially established.
Police are also investigating allegations involving a man identified as Sonababu Ali, who was reportedly known to Asma as her husband. According to the allegations, Sonababu may have attacked Asma with a machete during the night before leaving the area. Police have not yet confirmed the allegations, and efforts are underway to verify the claims through evidence and witness statements.
Investigators are also looking into the possibility that a personal dispute may have preceded the incident. The exact motive, however, remains unclear at this stage.
Rangia Police have launched a search for Sonababu Ali, who is reportedly absconding following the incident. Officers are questioning people who may have information about the events leading up to the death and examining evidence collected from the residence.
