Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Saturday highlighted what he described as significant progress across multiple sectors during the past eight years, saying the northeastern state has recorded substantial economic and social development under the present government.
Addressing the state-level Independence Day programme at the Assam Rifles ground, Saha said his administration had been consistently working to improve the economic circumstances and quality of life of the state’s residents. He pointed to the growth of the Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP), saying it had doubled within six years, while the state’s per capita income had moved close to the national average.

The Chief Minister also spoke about the state’s law-and-order situation, claiming that Tripura remained largely peaceful and recorded its lowest crime figures in two decades during the previous year. He said the improved environment was also helping generate greater interest among investors looking at opportunities in the northeastern region.
Saha referred to the recently held Destination Tripura: Business Summit, which attracted significant attention from potential investors. According to him, investment proposals worth around Rs 1.32 lakh crore were received during the event. He also noted the participation of representatives from 10 foreign embassies, describing their presence as an indication of growing interest in Tripura’s economic potential.
The Chief Minister further said the state’s performance had received recognition at the national and regional levels. Tripura has secured approximately 360 awards across various sectors, including agriculture, rural development and Panchayati Raj-related initiatives.
Saha said the government was pursuing development across several areas, with particular attention to farmers’ welfare, road and other connectivity projects, healthcare services and rural infrastructure. He stressed that improvements in these sectors were essential for ensuring more balanced development and better opportunities for people across the state.
On healthcare, Saha highlighted a recently signed Memorandum of Understanding between the Tripura government and AIIMS, New Delhi. The agreement is aimed at strengthening services at GBP Hospital in Agartala and is expected to improve the quality and accessibility of specialised healthcare for residents.
The Chief Minister also highlighted the rehabilitation of displaced Bru families as another major achievement. He said 6,935 Bru families who returned to Tripura from Mizoram have been rehabilitated under an agreement reached with the Centre to provide a lasting solution to their displacement.
Saha’s Independence Day address therefore focused on Tripura’s economic expansion, improved security environment, investment prospects and progress in public services. He said the government’s continuing efforts were aimed at creating stronger infrastructure, expanding opportunities and improving living standards while ensuring that development reaches different sections of the state’s population.
