BJP leader Shehzad Poonawalla has once again urged the party to accept his resignation from all organisational positions and primary membership, after his earlier request was turned down.
Poonawalla had offered to step down on July 30, citing difficult personal and financial circumstances and his intention to move into the private sector. The BJP had asked him to reconsider his decision.

In a letter issued on Monday, Poonawalla said he was grateful that the party had initially declined to accept his resignation and had given him an opportunity to rethink his decision. However, he said that after careful consideration, he had made a final decision to seek relief from his responsibilities as BJP national spokesperson and active primary member.
Cites Personal and Financial Difficulties
Poonawalla said his decision was driven by pressing financial and personal circumstances, which he said required him to explore opportunities outside active politics.
He also referred to developments within the party in recent days, suggesting that certain incidents involving individuals he had previously discussed with party leadership had strengthened his resolve to step down.
Despite seeking an exit, Poonawalla expressed his appreciation and respect for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP president Nitin Nabin, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and senior leader B L Santosh.
BJP Was Missing From His X Bio
Poonawalla’s decision comes after he removed any reference to the BJP from his X profile bio earlier in July.
His current bio describes him as a follower of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and highlights his views on religion, culture and ideology, without mentioning his association with the BJP.
Poonawalla joined the BJP in 2017 after leaving the Congress, following disagreements with the party’s process for electing its president. He subsequently became a national spokesperson for the BJP.
During his tenure, he emerged as a prominent defender of the Modi government and frequently targeted the Congress and its leaders, including Congress MP Rahul Gandhi.
His latest request to be relieved from his party responsibilities now leaves the BJP to decide whether to formally accept his resignation.
